Edd placed a tired hand on the smooth surface of the mahogany doorway, he dug his hand in his pocket and rattled around.
                “Oh…shoot…” Edd mumbled as his lazy fingers allowed the key ring to slip right past his grasp and fall onto the pavement below.  Bending over to pick them up, Edd’s muscle aches moaned and groaned.  He straightened his back and winced; only having finished one week wearing his new title of Kindergarten teacher, Eddward was anxious he wouldn’t live past the next.
                Kindergarten wasn’t his first choice, Edd much preferred older children, those with higher order of thinking.  He wanted to teach social studies, mathematics, and science, anything in greater detail.  Instead 90% of his day was dedicated to misbehaviors and keepin
g all his students in one spot for a mere 15 minute lesson.
                “They are cute though…” Edd sighed with an exhausted smirk and turned the key in the lock, pushing forward on the wooden door.  Once inside, Eddward didn’t bother with formalities, his coat dropped on the arm of the maroon couch in the middle of the living room.  Placing his bag delicately next to the coffee table Edd lowered himself onto the cushions and hugged a throw pillow.

                “I guess…he’s working late today…” Edd nestled his head into the pillow against his chest and shut his eyes, in only a few minutes he was snoozing steadily.  The sun was beginning to set, yellow and orange rays were drifting in through the balcony window lighting up the small apartment in one last burst of sunlight.

“PICK A FUCKIN LANE ALREADY!” Tires skidded across the road impatiently; the loud screeching could be heard for miles, as well as Eddy’s big mouth.  Passing the other car, he flipped them a big one before zooming on ahead, and other cars on the interstate hastily took head of his rampage as they moved out of the way.  A chorus of beeping horns left in his quake, Eddy clenched his teeth together and growled quietly to himself.  “Sunday drivers…not even Sunday…”  He angrily swiped at the volume on the dashboard until it was loud enough to drown out the rising tension in his chest.
The exit he had been looking forward to all day faded into sight, its promising bright green luster being more than welcome to his weary eyes.  Familiar surroundings all around were already relaxing in their own ways.  As far as Eddy was concerned, getting off that damnable interstate was the last strenuous task of the work day, and by the time he passed by the old construction sight he would already consider himself “at home”…

After pulling the car up onto the driveway, the loud classic rock music was cut off abruptly as he hurriedly turned the key and shouldered out of the car, grabbing his greasy work shirt before closing the door.  As he turned to rush into the house, he was instantly yanked back, realizing seconds later that he’d shut the door on the sleeve.  “GOD--!“ He let out a loud huff, a frustrated replacement for the swearword, and impatiently jerked the article of clothing until it slipped out.  Eddy ceremoniously stomped his way towards the door, pushing it open, already expecting Double D to be home by now.  He glanced over the living area once and noticed a body on the couch.  With a heavy sigh, he closed the door behind him and threw his shirt on the floor.  “Hey D,” he said curtly, already making a beeline towards the bathroom for his usual after-work rituals.

Eye lids rising slightly, Double D rolled onto his back and placed a hand over his face.  His legs and arms pained as if he had been swimming in molasses all day, he exhaled a deep whine and swung his legs to sit up on the couch.  His button down shirt and tie lay askew while his hair ruffled underneath his chin, frizz sticking out on the sides of his head under his hat.  Now in his late twenties Edd had a miraculous increase in hair growth, sometimes, he thought, a little too much growth.  Straightening out his hat and smoothing out his shirt, the drowsy and raccoon-eyed man reached for his coat.  He hung it neatly in the closet by the door, tugging on the edges to flatten the fabric.
                On Friday nights Eddward had a usual routine of completing all the chores he was too tired to finish during the week.  Eyes falling to the vacuum in the closet, Edd sighed remorsefully, wishing he had the energy to just clean one room.  Shutting the door behind him, Double D leaned up against the wall and stared ahead, his vision followed the light of the bathroom.

                “Eddy?  I-is that you?”  Half of himself in reality and half still asleep, Edd hadn’t noticed Eddy’s standard thundering entrance.  Edd walked towards the light and leaned against the door frame, his boyfriend was washing his face, eyes closed rubbing soap on his cheeks.  Leisurely drifting back and forth, Double D smiled and shut his eyes for a few seconds every now and then.

Eddy’s waved his hand around, blindly reaching for the nearby hand towel to dry his face off.  He’d heard the creak of the old wood in the door frame giving into weight and assumed he was being watched.  Having spotted his live-in partner reclining against the edge of the bathroom in the mirror, Eddy grimaced when he saw the man’s haggard face.  “Jeez, you look like shit.”  Face now dry, he moved onto his arms, where water had been trickling down to his elbows.  He flung the towel back onto the rack, but soon after noticed a few clumps of damp hair clinging to his forehead, so he used the edge of his undershirt to scrub them dry.

“Gee, thanks Eddy…” Edd quipped, “Shall I compliment you on your appearance as well?” Slightly hurt but knowing his nature, Double D folded his arms and studied Eddy primping himself.  They hadn’t seen each other much this week, with Edd’s new position and Eddy working long hours to make the rent, intimacy had been scarce.
                Double D twirled a strand of his hair on his finger while he traced the outline of the man’s profile with his eyes.  Hair roughed down from hours of work and a five o’ clock shadow on his chin.  Edd chuckled, he always thought Eddy was just a bit cute, albeit loud and obnoxious, when he came home from work stomping around.
                Double D moved his body to the center of the door and casually walked over to reach for his brush.  Running the bristles through his hair woke up his senses, Edd held his hat down as he brushed around the sides, standing behind Eddy to study himself in the mirror.  Due to Eddy’s height and the minute size of the mirror it was easier for Double D to simply stand back and bend over towards his reflection.

                Hesitating, Edd knew this practice could annoy Eddy, but he was desperate for attention.  Grinning slightly, Edd offered sympathetic eyes,  “H-how was your day?  I’m sure you know how mine was…”

After a brief, annoyed glance over his shoulder, Eddy instinctively moved an inch to the left; their small mirror had yet again forced him to reminisce over the grandeur of his old vanity he had to pawn off in the past.  He nodded left, right, down, left again… checking his hair and ruffling it in places where the dried gel and sweat were disagreeable.  He rubbed the back of his neck and frowned, hating the sticky feeling of old “work” sweat.  “Same old shit,” he replied, “Almost got smacked in the face by some jerkwad who couldn’t work the lift.  I don’t know why they let these idiots in the shop.”  He grabbed his deodorant and reapplied… knowing he probably already reeked of motor oil; the last thing he wanted was to add BO to the list of repulsiveness.  The worst part was, he could barely smell it anymore; he was so used to it.

“I really oughta shower soon,” he said, making a face, just now noticing a dark stain on his shoulder.  “How the hell—“but as he examined the mysterious mark on his skin the movement of Edd brushing his hair drew his attention, and he paused.  Eddy gently took the brush away, pulling it from his hand; “Stop, Double D, you look fine.  You’re just not rockin’ the overworked look.”  A small, tired smile formed on his own face as he reached up and pulled a tiny red piece of scrap paper off the edge of Edd’s hat, cut into a weird shape, probably from some kind of crafts thing the kids were getting into earlier that day.

Edd giggled softly into his hand after seeing the aftermath of the daily craft, “Heh, that was Leslie, she attempted to cut a heart out for me, they really are adorable, difficult but adorable…”  Edd touched the confiscated brush handle softly, wanting to make himself look more presentable.  Ignoring the urge he focused on the advice he had just received and began placing his worries elsewhere. 
                Edd laid a hand on Eddy’s arm and squeezed lightly, “You need to— they need to be more careful…” halting before placing all the blame on Eddy, Double D knew his boyfriend despised that practice but he almost couldn’t help it from slipping out.
                At the mention of a shower, Double D loosened his tie and tugged his free hand in his sleeve.  His clothes were becoming stale and uncomfortable but he didn’t quite have the courage to discard them all at once.  Peering down at Eddy, the taller man shifted his gaze to the side before locking eyes. 

                “Y-you should take a shower then, relax.  After all you nearly got killed multiple times…”  The flesh on his face feeling flush, Double D took Eddy’s hand and hummed nervously, looking down at his feet and up again every couple of seconds.

Being as they had been living together, used to each other’s company for quite some time, Eddy was no stranger to the not-so-obvious cues of perked interest and amorous inclination.  However, after a multitude of mistakes, falsely judging casual glances for affectionate looks of longing, chasing imaginary incentives, and one too many smacks on the hand, Eddy needed a little more than a friendly touch on the arm to go running after Edd’s carrot again.
He sighed and leaned against the sink, looking wearily at the shower curtain, feeling his shoulders slump at the thought of taking a shower.  Usually he jumped right in after work, and normally he loved his showers, but sometimes a man just needs to sit around in dirty underwear and drink a beer for a while…  He found himself glancing at Edd again, the image of a carrot popping up in his brain, making him roll his eyes back to the shower.  “Yeah,” it was a curse; no matter how many times he’d gotten his ear chewed off for jabbing him with his boner at the most inappropriate times, he was cursed.  Maybe if he had another excuse; “I did get that new body wash last night.”  Atta boy.

                Edd’s thoughts were reeled back into reality by a heavy stream of water hitting the bathtub floor.  The steam rose around Eddy’s figure and fogged up the mirror slightly, revealing something illegible Eddy had scribbled in the mirror from his previous shower. 

                Biting his lip, Edd stepped forward, “What kind?”  Hoping the display in curiosity would push Eddy to take the reins.  Beginning to feel ambivalence as a result of his exhaustion, Double D staggered to the tub and rolled his hands onto Eddy’s shoulders, pressing down and circling the man’s neck with his calloused thumbs.  It was added insurance, he reasoned with himself.

Eddy let a sigh escape him before chuckling quietly when he felt the welcoming pressure around his shoulder and collarbone.  He gave the dark stain on his shoulder another glance and tried to rub it off before realizing it wasn’t dirt at all, it was a bruise, and from what he had no idea.  There was really no telling in his line of work.  He rolled his eyes and stood up, disregarding Edd’s handsy offering, however sensual the attempt may have been; his thoughts turned to his job and how crummy it felt sometimes… He stood just out of reach of the spray, eyes searching for the distractibility of the bright red bottle, eager to shed the lingering frustrations he usually brought home with him. 

“It’s called uh,” he grabbed the bottle and held it up for Edd to see, “Swagalicious-”  Eddy smiled, realizing that his significant other, being the ever so courteous gentleman, as always, had already unbuttoned and unzipped, as if he were awaiting an invitation.  After setting the bottle aside, and unintentionally wetting his hair while doing so, the slight smile on his face grew into a grin and as he shed the last article of clothing, his boxers, he asked “Wanna try it with me?”

Edd lethargically tilted his head to the side with a snap and shifted his body weight onto his right foot, his button-up shirt sleeve now dropping off of his shoulder.
                “Swagalicious, Eddy?” Edd sassed and lowered his eyelids, his partner always tended to go for the flashiest product on the self.  An exasperated sigh entertained Edd’s lips as he continued to loosen his tie.
                “Wait—what?” Double D finally processed Eddy’s question, “Try it with you?” a sliding sensation over his skin caused him to glance down.  His unbuckled belt let loose and his pants were sagging lower than comfort.  He frantically reached to grasp for them but his drowsy reactions caused his fingers to graze by the leather.  His underwear now on display to the man in front of him, Edd’s internal temperature grew as he bent over to recover his dignity.

                “I-I forgot where I was for a second,” Edd stammered, head down and hat dragging across the bathtub’s edge.

Eddy, with his eyes fixated on the bright shade of white peeking through Edd’s rogue zipper, paused in his actions and stood frozen under the hot water with his mouth ajar.  He watched motionlessly as the pants tumbled down to briefly expose the bed-weathered knees that he would always push towards Edd’s ears… As soon as Edd’s hat obstructed his view, he blinked and swayed a little, regaining his clarity.

“Yeah, me too...’ he mumbled, unable to train his eyes away.  A heated spark surged through him as Edd was bent over, his head being within impulse vicinity.  Eddy bit his lip and raised his hand, closely considering the urge to grab the hat and pull… his knuckles flexing as the internal conflict waged back and forth.  Before he could decide, however, the opportunity was lost and Eddy quickly moved his hand, conceding with a quick burst of a sigh.  A wave of impatience filled his chest and he anxiously tapped on the bottle with his thumb while he glued his stare to the glistening floor of the tub.  “You comin’ in or not?”

Shoulders slinking back as he rose gently, Double D didn’t bother to lift his pants on the way up.  Instead, he rested his palms on his knees and flung his head back, letting the tip of his hat graze Eddy’s thigh.  His hair piled out of his hat, the once just three haired boy had now grown several locks.  A deep maroon chocolate brown color, the strands stuck to Edd’s face as he gazed up at Eddy.
                “U-um, why, yes…I guess I should partake, I was covered in glitter and finger paints today after all,” making a quick excuse, Edd snagged the band of his underwear and frantically pulled it down, turning around to hide the already prominent boner he was sporting.  Removing his shirt and hat reluctantly, Edd nabbed a shower cap from the sink and fixed it on himself before letting his head breathe for too long.  Double D gingerly covered himself in the shower curtain as he climbed over the tub’s edge and into the stream of warm water.  His eyes fell down as he eyed up Eddy standing on the other side.

                Eyes avoiding his, Double D grinned nervously and crossed his arms over his chest, “I-I must look like I came out of a warzone today…p-pass me my loofa would you, Eddy?”

Eddy had no idea his face had stretched into a goofy grin, even as Edd attempted to grab his attention with a question.  It’s been a while since they shared a shower, due to conflicting bathing routines, and he’d almost forgotten how much he loved watching him willingly take his hat off, even for the split second it took for him to replace it with a shower cap.  Something about his hair falling out and sticking to his face really… stoked his fire.
